About Gibraltar

Measuring less than six square kilometres and inhabited by approximately 30,000 people, the Gibraltar offers diverse cultures including British, Moroccans, Indians, Spanish and a colony of Barbary Apes on the top of the Rock.

With its low cost of living, micro-climate with winds from the Atlantic protecting you from the real extremes of heat affecting parts of Southern Spain in the height of the summer, excellent taxation laws, easy access to Spain and the fact that you can obtain employment without speaking Spanish, Gibraltar is an excellent place to live.

Gibraltar combines a Mediterranean lifestyle with a vibrant Business culture, lower cost of living, easy access to southern Spain, plus the opportunity of working in an English language environment.

Gibraltar has its own airport, beaches, spectacular mountain and sea landscapes and if you get tired of the heat and want to snow ski then the Sierra Nevada winter sports resort next to Granada is just a three hour drive away.

Gibraltar is an excellent place for families with income tax benefits for married couples and those with children. Schools are excellent and free to residents operating on the UK curriculum and exam structure. There is also a fee-paying English International School based in Spain in nearby Sotogrande.

Although it is a self-governing colony, Britain is responsible for Gibraltar's foreign affairs, defence and the political stability. It has its own Chief Minister, House of Assembly and Government, which oversees the day-to-day affairs of the Rock. It is a member of the EU by virtue of Britain's membership but because Gibraltar is outside the customs union travellers from member states can enjoy duty free goods.

Gibraltar is a peninsula with an area of 2.25 square miles linked to the southern tip of Spain, facing the northern coast of Africa and dominating the western entrance to the Mediterranean. Together with Jebel Musa (Mons Abila in Latin) in Morocco, Gibraltar (Mons Calpe) formed the Pillars of Hercules. One of the world's most famous landmarks, the Rock of Gibraltar rises to approximately 1,400 feet and has been a key strategic site for many centuries.
